The principle and function of microwave in the heating and softening of logs

Release time:2026-03-19 14:35:19

In the wood processing industry, softening treatment of logs is an important link to improve processing quality and reduce production losses. Traditional methods such as boiling water and steam heating have problems such as uneven heating, long processing time, and high energy consumption.
The use of microwaves to heat and soften logs relies on the basic principles of microwave selective heating and overall penetration heating. Microwaves belong to high-frequency electromagnetic waves, which can penetrate the surface of logs during operation and directly act on water molecules inside the wood. Raw wood itself contains a certain amount of moisture. Under the high-frequency oscillation of microwaves, water molecules will quickly generate intense friction and collision, thereby converting microwave energy into heat energy and achieving overall heating of the wood from the inside out.
Unlike traditional external heating methods, microwave heating does not rely on thermal conduction to gradually penetrate. Heat is not slowly transferred from the surface of the wood to the interior, but is generated simultaneously inside and outside the wood. Therefore, it can greatly shorten the heating time and avoid the situation of surface overheating and insufficient internal temperature. During the heating process, the staff can adjust parameters such as microwave power and conveying speed through the equipment to maintain a stable and uniform heating state of the wood, gradually absorbing heat from the internal fibers and lignin of the wood, achieving the desired softening effect. The entire process is gentle and controllable, and will not have a destructive impact on the structural strength of the wood itself.
With the help of the above principle, microwave can first quickly improve the efficiency of wood softening. Traditional softening methods often take several hours or even longer, while microwave tunnel ovens can heat logs to the target temperature in a shorter period of time, greatly compressing the processing cycle and improving the overall processing flow speed, especially suitable for continuous and process based wood processing scenarios.

In addition, microwave treatment also has certain bactericidal and insecticidal effects. At the same time as heating and softening, microwaves can destroy the living environment of insect eggs, molds, and microorganisms inside the wood, playing a role in low-temperature sterilization, insect prevention, and anti-corrosion without the need for additional chemical agents, which is more in line with the requirements of green processing and can also extend the storage and service life of wood.
